Placement and Proficiency Exams

Placement Exams

The Testing Center administers computerized ACCUPLACER exams in English and math to measure current skills and to determine appropriate course placement. All students are required to complete placement testing if they are:

  • Enrolling in an English course
  • Enrolling in a math course
  • Pursuing a degree or certificate program at Morton College where English or math is required

Before testing, students must complete the College’s New Student Information Form (PDF) and submit it to the Office of Admission and Records.

Students are allowed two (2) attempts to achieve minimum exam scores before beginning their course sequence.

The first exam is free, but there is a $10.00 retesting fee to retake the placement exam.

Accommodated Placement Exam

Testing accommodations are available for students with disabilities. Prior to testing, students seeking an accommodation must schedule an appointment with the Disability Specialist and submit appropriate documentation regarding their disability.

Proficiency Exams

Proficiency exams allow students to demonstrate knowledge gained through prior education or work experiences. The Testing Center administers proficiency exams for Geometry.
