Licensure

Graduates must take the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE) to practice as physical therapist assistants in many states, Illinois included. In Illinois, licensure is controlled by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Contact: (217) 785-0800

It is each student’s responsibility to determine whether he/she is in compliance with criteria for state licensure.

There are instances when the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) may refuse to issue a license.

Applicants convicted of a felony or misdemeanor may have difficulty obtaining a license. To obtain more information on the licensure process and to review the list of potential situations where the IDFPR may refuse to issue a license, students are advised to contact the IDFPR or visit the IDFPR website.

Graduation from this program does not guarantee a passing score on the NPTE for PTA.
