Five student-athletes from Morton College received the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Academic Student-Athlete Award, which were released June 24th.
Receiving the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Excellence were:
Hector Aguirre, baseball, 3.95 GPA
Rebecca Bell, women’s cross country and basketball, 3.88 GPA
Carlos Leon, men’s soccer, 3.88 GPA
Lynmarie Vega, softball, 3.91 GPA
Brooke Bell, who participated in women’s cross country and basketball, received the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Excellence. Her GPA was 3.78.
The NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement goes to student-athletes with a grade-point between 3.80 and 3.99 on a 4.00 scale, while the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement is earned by those with a grade-point average between 3.60 and 3.79 on a 4.00 scale.
Morton College’s five are among the top three percent of student-athletes participating in the NJCAA’s 28 different sports. Among schools in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference, Morton’s five honored were only bested by Waubonsee (seven) and Moraine Valley (six). Morton College’s four on the Superior Academic Excellence list was second in the Skyway to Moraine Valley’s five.
