The National Junior College Cross Country Coaches Association named the men's and women's teams as All-NJCAA Academic.
The Morton College cross country program demonstrated success in its sport in 2011 with the men’s team winning a conference title. The women’s team captured conference and region titles as well as placing 18th at the national meet.
A greater sign of success came from the National Junior College Cross Country Coaches Association, which recognized both teams as All-NJCAA Academic. The women’s team had a team grade-point average of 3.318, edging out North Iowa Area Community College by eight-thousands of a point for 15th place. The men compiled a team GPA of 3.267 to rank 18th nationally.
The following Morton College team members were named individual 2011 Academic All-Americans for earning a GPA of 3.40 or higher:
• Brenda Bedolla
• Kevin Householder
• Hector Lopez
• Ana Salgado
• Andrew Zalazinski
Grade-point averages were based on the Fall 2011 semester. Householder and Zalazinski were among two of three student-athletes from the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference to have perfect 4.0 GPAs.
“We are very proud of our program’s success academically and athletically,” Morton College athletic director Rich Fullriede said. “It is what we strive for Morton College as we try to provide opportunities to perform well in both arenas.”
