- What is Project CARE?
Project Care is Morton College’s adult volunteer literacy program.
- What services are provided?
Trained volunteer tutors meet with students either one-to-one or in small groups to tutor them in reading and/or English language skills.
- How is Project CARE funded?
Project CARE is funded by a grant from the Illinois Secretary of State Literacy Office.
- How can I contact Project CARE?
Project CARE is located in the Student Success Center in Room 245C. The phone number is 708-656-8000 x383. Project CARE is open from 8:30 to 5pm Monday to Thursday. Fridays, it is open from 8:30 to 12pm; Or by appointment.
Student Information
- How much does it cost to participate in Project CARE?
Project CARE’s services are provided free of charge.
- How does someone sign up for Project CARE?
The adult learner must contact us in our office to complete an intake and assessment.
- Who qualifies for Project CARE?
- Anyone reading below a 9th grade level
- Can be either an ESL or ABE learner
- May have a high school diploma but needs to read below a ninth grade level
- Does not need to be a Morton College student; we are a community resource. We don’t have any physical borders.

- How does someone become a tutor for Project CARE?
By contacting our office for upcoming Orientation information, or by appointment
- Can Morton College students be tutors?
Definitely! Anyone with a High School degree or equivalent who is 18 years or older can tutor
- What is the time commitment for a tutor?
A commitment of at least one year is requested.
- Are tutors trained? Yes, tutors attend 12 hours of initial training free of charge.
