Policy on the Use of Group Study Rooms
Morton College has a very limited number of group study rooms on the second floor of the library. These seven rooms are intended to provide students with space to conduct collaborative academic work. They are not intended for social gatherings, classes or other extra-curricular activities. To help ensure that these rooms remain available for all students, please review and abide by the policies below:
- Use of the rooms is limited to enrolled Morton College students.
- Study rooms are available for booking on a first-come, first-served basis with a valid Morton College ID/library card (with barcode). The card must be left at the library Circulation Desk while the room is in use.
- Rooms are booked in two hour increments. One additional two-hour renewal is allowed if no one is waiting for a room. Rooms must be vacated at the end of the booked time. No group or individual may use a room beyond four hours a day.
- Room reservations may be requested for the current day only, and reservations may be made in person or by phone. Reserved rooms not occupied ten minutes after the reserved time will be considered vacant.
- Use of the larger study rooms (Cicero and Morton) is restricted to groups of three students or more. No single users are permitted in the Cicero or Morton Rooms. All members of the group must be present at the time the booking begins.
- NO FOOD or open drinks are allowed in the Study Rooms at any time. Only covered drinks are permitted. Users observed with food will be asked to vacate the room and move to the cafe or cafeteria.
- Users should not leave the library during their two hour increment, nor should belongings be left unattended. The library staff is not responsible for loss, theft or damage of personal items.
- Library conduct applies to the Study Rooms. Users should not disturb other library patrons with excessive noise. Study Rooms should be left clean and free of trash. Damage to the Study Rooms or equipment will be the responsibility of those using the rooms.
