Can I request the book from another library by using SWAN?

Yes, go to Swan and log into your account. Click “Search Catalog” and search for the book you need. Click on the title of the book you need and then Click on the “Request” button at the top of the screen.

How long before the book arrives?

Materials can take anywhere from a few days to a week to arrive, depending on the lending library. You will receive a phone call [please check to see if the Library has your current phone number on file] or email when your material arrives. You can also check the status of your material by logging into your account through Swan.

Where can I pick up my book?

You can pick up your materials at the Circulation Desk. You have one week to pick up your materials or they will be sent back to the lending library. Please remember to bring your Library Card when picking up your material.

I’ve checked Swan and nobody has the material I need. Is there anywhere else I can check for it?

Yes, you can check WorldCat in First Search, a world wide library cooperative. However, you cannot request the material yourself through WorldCat. Please see Reference staff for help.

Is there a charge for obtaining material through WorldCat?

In most cases, there are no charges for borrowing from Illinois libraries. However, if there is a charge, borrowers will be notified of charges asked by the lending libraries before they loan is placed. If the borrower agrees to the charge, they are responsible for paying incurred charges.

How long can I keep the material?

Interlibrary loan check-out periods and renewals are at the discretion of the lending library.

Your Library record must be current and all fines must be paid before Library staff will fulfill your request for an ILL.
