Our Learning Community

The Learning Community Cohort (LCC) is a group of students paired for 2 courses each semester for two academic years. During those two years students will focus on the completion of general education requirements. The objectives of this learning community cohort are to help student complete a degree in a timely manner, decide on a career, and transfer to a four-year institution.

Who can participate in the Cohort?

• high school diploma or GED
• first time, full-time students (no less than 12 credit hours per semester)
• undeclared students (four year degree)
• students who intend to transfer
• students who place into English 101

What is required of Participants?

• Must register for paired courses each semester for two years
• Must participate in mentor programs
• Must meet with cohort advisor
• Must participate in at least two student activities events
• Must take part in career counseling activities
• Must participate in tutoring a minimum of three times a semester

What are the benefits?

• receive extra support
• enhanced college experience
• form closer relationships with faculty and classmates
• receive a tuition reimbursement for up to 6 credit hours per semester (includes tuition & course fees)

What is required for tuition reimbursement?

• Must apply for financial aid if eligible
• Must pass both Learning Community courses successfully (grade of C or better)
• Must adhere to the requirements of the cohort contract

The Title V Cooperative Grant office will be able to provide special services to those participating in the Learning Community Cohort program such as peer & faculty mentoring, supplemental tutoring, transfer/career advice, personalized advising, transition services, and enrichment activities. All of these wonderful services provide additional support to LCC students and will add to a student’s collegiate experience.
