Faculty will have the unique opportunity to play a key role in assisting Learning Community Cohort (LCC) students through mentorship. They will provide support to enhance student’s adjustment higher education. The Mentor Program matches faculty with incoming LCC students and are available to meet with students. Students benefit from the encouragement, sound advice, and ongoing support from those who have succeeded in reaching their goals. Such counsel helps students clearly define educational and career goals and overcome obstacles while doing so. The focus of the Morton College Mentor Program is to assist Learning Community

The transition from high school to college is an exciting time filled with new ideas, opportunities and responsibilities. The primary mission of the SEEDS mentoring program is to assist student in their transition to the Morton College experience. Learning Community Cohort (LCC) students will be paired with Governors State University Juniors and Seniors. SEEDS mentors will provide support through weekly contact and will work closely with the students to help them navigate the college environment. SEEDS mentors will help prepare students for college by providing them with information about the culture and the challenges of higher education. Mentors offer their time to provide support and may act as a resource person. A SEEDS mentor is a person who has knowledge, skills, information, and experience in college and is willing and able to share these in order to help the LCC student’s growth.

All Learning Community Cohort (LCC) students are required to take an assessment at the tutoring center. Based on this assessment, students will receive an individualized educational plan (IEP) and recommendations for tutoring services. LCC students are encouraged to participate in any and all tutoring services provided by Morton College. The Cohort Advisor and/or the LCC faculty may at any time recommend that a student see a tutor for additional assistance. LCC students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of any opportunity to get additional academic assistance provided by tutoring services or study groups. The Title V Cooperative Grant office will provide additional retention and transition services to students in the form of career advise, retention and transition activities, and transfer guidance. LCC students will receive detailed information about these services as they becomes available. Learning Community Cohort students will benefit from the additional resources and assistance provided through these services. For more detailed information about Learning Community Cohort retention and transition services, please contact the Retention & Transition Coordinator at ext. 377.
Learning Community Cohort (LCC) students are required to attend several enrichment activities every semester. LCC students will be given an activities passport to keep track of their verified attendance at enrichment activities. To verify attendance at enrichment activities, students must get a signature in their passport from a Morton College staff member organizing the event. Each student must verify their attendance at these activities with the Cohort Advisor after each event attended. Please keep any additional documentation of event for verification by the Cohort Advisor (agenda, flyer, ticket, handout, etc.). Some example of enrichment activities are:
