Overview of the HOPE Scholarship
Welcome to the HOPE Scholarship Application! This scholarship is designed to support undocumented students at Morton College seeking a degree or certification. Below is break down of the application process and what to expect as you complete your application.
Purpose of the HOPE Scholarship
The HOPE Scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to undocumented students who do not qualify for federal financial aid. We believe in the potential of every individual and are committed to ensuring access to higher education, regardless of immigration status. History of the HOPE Scholarship
The HOPE Scholarship began as a student led initiative that recognized the needs of undocumented students on campus. Through hard work, fundraising efforts, and genuine dedication, students created a scholarship that continues to make an impact today. Their vision lives on, and the college is proud to carry forward the legacy they built.

Eligibility Requirements
- Eligible applicants for the Morton College HOPE Scholarship must be undocumented students who are not eligible for federal financial aid. An undocumented student is an individual who is in the United States without legal immigration status.
- Current Morton College Student enrolled in a certification program or degree-seeking program
- Part-time with minimum of 6 credit hours or
- Full-time with minimum of 12 credit hours
- Must plan to register for a minimum of 6 credit hours for Spring 2026 or Summer 2026.
- Applicants must demonstrate an established Morton College minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher by the end of the Fall semester.
- One typed and signed letter of recommendation (other than family) who knows the applicant well (i.e., teacher, supervisor, counselor, coach, academic advisor etc.).
- Attach a personal statement answering one of the provided prompts of a minimum of 500 words (typed, no more than 2 pages double-spaced using 12-point font type Arial or Times New Roman).
Essay Prompt 1: Discuss the role of education in your life and how you envision using your degree or certificate to make a positive impact in your community or chosen field.
Essay Prompt 2: Describe your aspirations and goals for the future and how receiving the HOPE Scholarship would support your academic and career aspirations.
Scholarship Amount and Distribution
- Part-time student scholarship award (6 credit hours minimum) at $500 per awardee for Spring 2026 or Summer 2026
- Full-time student scholarship award (12 or more credit hours) at $1,000 per awardee for Spring 2026 or Summer 2026
Application Process
- Submit HOPE Scholarship online application form.
- Upload an unofficial college transcript to the application form.
- Submit a typed personal statement (Minimum 500 words) answering ONE of the essay prompts.
- Submit one typed and signed letter of recommendation (other than family) who knows the applicant well (i.e., teacher, supervisor, counselor, coach, academic advisor etc.). Either attach to application or have recommender email it to dreamers@morton.edu with subject “(Insert Applicant’s Name) Letter of Recommendation”
Application Deadline
This application and all required information are due on January 26, 2026.This deadline will not be extended, no exceptions. All information must be submitted to dreamers@morton.edu.
