Get real work experience at a veterinary clinic or hospital near you when you enroll in our program. During the hands-on portion, you have the opportunity to learn from veterinary experts while applying classroom knowledge in a real-life setting.

What Training Does the Program Provide?

MK Education’s dedicated instructors have expertise in the field and provide hands-on training that enables you to work side-by-side with a veterinary team.

Program students learn about the various duties required of veterinary assistants in addition to human relations skills, medical terminology and veterinary technology.

Students participating in the Veterinary Assistant Training Program will learn how to:

  • Participate in veterinary functions: shadowing or hands on training Perform Sanitation Procedure according to Standards Maintain Equipment
  • Communicate effectively with patients and medical professionals
  • Clean and disinfect cages and work areas
  • Sterilize laboratory and surgical equipment Provide post-operative care
  • Administer medication orally or topically
  • Prepare samples for laboratory examination under a veterinarian's or veterinarian technician's supervision
  • Assist with animal care (feed, water, exercise, etc.)
  • Perform animal restraint
  • Perform clerical duties (phones, greeting customers, record keeping, taking appointments, etc.)
  • Fill and administer vaccines under Veterinarian/Veterinary Technician supervision (varies by site)
  • Prepare for surgery
  • Fill prescriptions
  • Perform laboratory testing
  • Prepare animals for veterinary examination
