Born and raised in Chicago (Logan Square Neighborhood), Marlene started working at Morton College in 2007 and obtained her Associates Degree in Liberal Studies in 2009. In 2015 she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Governors State University. She is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Dominican University and will be graduating in May of 2019. She loves sports, especially basketball (Chicago Bulls), baseball (Chicago Cubs) and football (Chicago Bears). One of her greatest challenges in college was being a single mom at a young age (21) and not being able to attend college full-time. However, she did not allow her situation to hinder her education. Instead, she used it as motivation and determination to continue her studies and finish school. She believes her situation is a great lesson for any student to have. Don’t ever allow any challenge or barrier interfere with your education. Instead, use it as a motivation to work harder for your dream!
