Associate in Science Degree Math Course Sequence

This document is to help students better understand what math courses they should take to complete an AS degree at Morton College.

An AS degree is for students who plan to pursue a Bachelor’s of Science degree at a four year university.

Examples of BS majors include:

  • Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, …)
  • Engineering
  • Technology
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Business
  • Education
  • Health Sciences
  • And more

In order to complete an AS degree students must complete at least 8 credit hours of college level math (math courses that are numbered 102 or higher).

Students should meet with a Student Success Coach to decide on which course sequence is best for them and receive placement into their first math course.

Which sequence is best for a student is determined by the types of courses required by the four year university the student plans to attend and their planned major.

Click on the links below to view details for each course sequence.

STEM Course Sequence: For students whose major at a four year university requires Calculus I. These tend to be students in the traditional STEM fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Non-STEM Course Sequence: For students whose major at a four year university does not require Calculus I. These majors would require a Statistics or Calculus for Business and the Social Sciences course. These tend to be students in business, finance, marketing, economics, and biological or social sciences, among others.
